Fall Porch Renovations
Thursday, October 30, 2014In the mid-1800s to the early 1900s large porches were a staple to many southern homes. Families passed many lovely days socializing among themselves and with neighbors over fresh ice tea and baked goods as porches were an invitation to friendly visitors of all kinds. Our porch is a typical one of a home built in 1910, so I decided to complete a porch makeover so that it will be fit for crisp Fall afternoon socials.
First, I went to Home Goods and At Home (the former Garden Ridge) and found cute rustic plant boxes to sit around on the porch.
Candles for evening ambiance and mums make great additions to a the Fall theme.

Wooden tables and antique items add to the "at home" ambiance.
Old wooden tool boxes make great storage boxes for gardening tools.
(We found a wooden baby swing that we stained for Jack. He should be able to use it this summer.)
My favorite part are the drop cloth curtains. I found two drop cloths for $15 a piece at Home Depot and cut little holes at the top. Then I hung them on little silver hooks that I fastened to the top of the porch. I tied the curtains back with rope and attached artificial flowers to the rope for added decor.
I'm looking forward to warm coffee in the mornings and entertaining evenings on my rennovated 1910's porch.
