My Love Story
Saturday, May 23, 2015In honor of my wedding day tomorrow, I wanted to share our love story. It's not a fairytale, it is real life and just perfect.
It was two and a half years ago on New Years Eve that Ben and I would meet. A friend of mine and I drove up to Nashville for a single ladies New Year's Eve out. We were so excited to start a fresh new year as young single professionals, ready to take on the world.
I was freshly single and had spent the last 3 weeks of 2012 down and out. After recently experiencing a break up, living alone, trying to get used to an entirely new lifestyle as a self employed woman, and experiencing the income ups and downs as a business owner, I was ready to say goodbye to 2012 and celebrate the great things I had planned to accomplish in 2013.
So back to Nashville. Kim and I arrived at our hotel to discover we had been upgraded to a huge suite, local celebrity status (or that's what we convinced ourselves). The New Year was proving to be a success already.
We end up going to meet up with some of Kim's friends at a swanky nightclub. It was a blast! We saw Brooke Hogan, met a guy that likes to find random cell phones and give them to us (he had indulged in libations a little too much that evening), and danced our hearts away. This being single thing was looking like it was going to work out. I just knew 2013 was going to be the biggest year of my life!
Kim and I decided to ride with some of her friends to another place to mix and mingle. We jumped into the back of a red coupe. The driver just so happened to be Ben. It wasn't love at that point. Honestly, we needed a ride, he offered, so we jumped in the backseat, and started off for destination number two.
We had hung out all night, but it was only at the end of the night that Ben and I noticed each other. I left my ID in his car and of course, I needed it to get in the last party stop. Ben offered to walk me to his car to look for my card. He unlocked the car and I quickly found what I was looking for.
I grabbed my ID from the backseat and turned to walk back towards the party, in mid-turn, my eyes met with Ben's, only for a half a second, but that half second was enough to warm my heart. It was a strange feeling. I could tell he felt it too as he stared back.
I began to get embarrassed so I quickly looked away and proceeded back into the party. We didn't say anything to each other and barely had a conversation all night. The next morning the first thing on my mind was Ben. Immediately, right after my eyes opened, he popped into my head.
Kim wanted to go to breakfast and I suggested that she call and invite her friend Ben. He joined us for a little grub before heading back to Memphis and It was all over from there.
January 1, 2013 was the day I met my soulmate. Many would call us an odd couple but I truly feel that he is the yen to my yang. We are different in almost every way, but it works. After 2 1/2 years and one baby later, tomorrow I will be saying "I do" to the love of my life. I couldn't be any happier to spend the rest of my life with a warm, loving, sensitive soul like Ben.
The last thing I was looking for that night was love but the Lord works in mysterious ways. Oh how I love that the Lord works in mysterious ways.
