The Best Easygoing Travel Weekend
Sunday, April 17, 2016
I am all about quick, last minute, easygoing getaways, and this weekend, my mom and I did just that. Hot Springs, Arkansas is my favorite little hidden gem in the valley of the Ouachita Mountains. For all of my history buffs who are fascinated by the times of prohibition and gangsters, art deco architecture, and all things from the era of the 20's and 30's, Hot Springs will become a special place for you too.
The Gables, built in 1904, was the most perfect, peaceful bed and breakfast. This was my first experience at this type of vacationing. I loved meeting with all of the guests in the morning to share breakfast in the dining room and truly felt like a guest in someones home. The home is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. I enjoyed looking at the period photos and postcards that decorated each room.
The Arlington Hotel is located on the main strip in Hot Springs and greeted several high status guests such as former Hollywood stars, presidents, mafia men, and other affluent people seeking cures from the natural mineral waters of Hot Springs. Across from The Arlington is a beautiful National Park with lovely blooms and greenery. You can find fountains with natural spring water flowing through, unique boutiques, homemade bath and body shops, and hidden music parks in between the buildings.
(I did not pick this! This flower was blowing down the sidewalk. It was so beautiful I thought it was fake. It made a beautiful hair accessory)
Capone's old bar, The Ohio Club, is my favorite evening hang out on the strip and the bath houses along Bath House row are magnificent.
Hale Bath House
Maurice Bath House
Superior Bath House
Fordyce Bath House
You can take a complimentary tour of this bath house open 7 days a week. Some of the houses are still in operation. We did a bath, massage, and facial package in the Arlington Bath House and then toured the Fordyce Bath House.
After spending the day getting pampered and exploring, we visited the Ohio Club for a live band, and for those of you know me through and through...you know I had to take the late night ghost tour through the city! This trip was the best weekend getaway, so easygoing. I would recommend Hot Springs, Arkansas to anyone who loves history, spas, hiking, exploration, and pure relaxation. If you get the chance to check it out or have already explored Hot Springs, I would love to hear about your time! Just write about your experience in the comment section below.
