As a female entrepreneur, I just love inspirational stories from fellow business women who have taken the leap into the scary, yet rewarding world of self employment. Local Memphis fashion and wedding photographer, Madison Yen, has discovered a new love that not only completes her her more passionate side, but has quickly become her full time job.
ME: Where is your Alma Mater?
Madison: University of Memphis. I majored in International Business and Foreign Languages (French and Chinese)
ME: What sparked your interest in photography?
Madison: I was interested in photography because my dad had a photography business called Yen Studios. I first started to manage the business, book clients, and handle the marketing. When he passed away a little over a year ago, I decided to keep his business and continue booking clients. I have had to do a lot of learning in a very short period of time, but it's been the most rewarding job I've ever had. I feel like I'm continuing on his legacy.
ME: What type of photography do you most enjoy?
Madison: My favorite type of photography changes with my mood. When I'm in the mood to see love and happiness, I LOVE photographing weddings and engagements. That's like seeing a new rom-com everyday! When I'm feeling confident, I love head shots and finding people's power pose. When I feel creative, fashion photography is perfect. The idea that you can create a scene and mood just from some clothes...I feel like the possibilities are limitless.
ME: What is your favorite quote?
Madison: Photography is a love affair with life. -Burke Uzzle
Sometimes I don't even see things until I have a camera in front of my face. I'm not really seeing, until I'm looking through a lens. And when you look for things to be in love with, you'll find them. That's what photography does for me. It makes me see.
ME: WOW!!!! I LOVE that bag. Where can I get one?
Madison: My bag is a Kelly Moore bag. It's made by a fellow photographer, so there are inserts, extra padding for lenses, dividers, and card holders - which is perfect for me. Have you seen some of those bags out there?? The fact that everywhere I go, I get compliments on it, is just a plus! I think my actual bag has since been discontinued, but her site has other swanky yet functional bags for photographers...or anyone who likes a bunch of different compartments.
I will definitely be getting my hands on one of these bags! Click here to see all of Kelly Moore's collection!
