What is dominating cocktail fashion you may ask? Well it is a term that I made up to describe my style when it comes to events. Everyone knows that I love the 90's look with total comfort during the day but when it comes to getting all dolled up, I like unique structured accessories and more discordant fabric mixes. A sort of style that dominates your ordinary evening tea party. In this post you will learn how to create your own dominating cocktail outfit.

The Fabric Mix, Structure, and Fit
These 3 things are essential for achieving the look in a classy way. First, shop your fabric makeup. Look for dresses or even pant suits that have more of an abrasive fabric mixture such as leather and tulle, rubber, metal details mixed into the design, or in this case leatherette with a fitted cotton spandex mix. A black A-line dress, a very structured fabric feature to the shape or design of the outfit, or in my case, a body-con fit will help to design the ultimate dominating look. By the way, I always choose black or deep colors so that my accessories can be louder with out being ridiculous. Make sure your new LBD fits to a tee! A power woman never hits the party with a dress that gapes in inappropriate places or fits too baggy in others. Because I have a longer torso, I always have to check the back side to make sure the "booty area" does not sit above my derriere to create that little pocket above the buttocks. NOT HOT! Know your body shape and choose a fit that compliments it!

The Fitted Cuff
Ok, so this is going to sound weird but a very structured and oversized cuff adds an element of dominance to the smallest part of a woman's body, her wrist! Add a piece of bulky metal to your arm but choose something that has no charms or colors. Mixed metals, hammered cuffs, or wide wired cuffs like the one I am wearing here will suffice as the perfect arm candy for this outfit.

The Statement Neck Piece
Draw the attention up to your face and be remembered with a fun, statement neck piece. This is where you can get weird, go over the top, or add in color. With this look I chose a thick metal collar with an asymmetrical design. At the end of this post you will see another dominating look that I chose for Memphis Fashion Week in which I wore a Siss Viss tire collar piece. You can even google statement fashion bibs or breast or chest plate jewelry for some extravagant ideas.

The dress and accessories that I am wearing in this post are 100% Rachel Roy. You can get the look below or browse some other styles that I have put together.
