Sparkly things just make me happy. Really happy! And since we have a lot of glitter leftover from our stilettos, why not make more stuff sparkly? Be careful though, you may end up covering everything you own in glitter! Continuing with our glitter DIY theme this February, I am going to show you how to add some bling to your brushes.
What You Will Need:
Mod Podge (did you know you can buy it at Dollar Tree!)
Glitter
Foam Paint Brush
Brushes (or any accessory really)
Step 1
Lay a newspaper down in your workspace and wipe down your brushes to ensure they are clean and dry.
My boyfriend gave me the bright idea to take the bristles out of the hair brush to keep it clean and glitter free. You can easily reinsert it at the end once your brush dries. Try wrapping plastic around the makeup brush bristles for protection as well.
Step 2
Apply a layer of Mod Podge on them with the foam brush. Sprinkle glitter over the brush and completely cover the wet Mod Podged areas and allow to dry 15-20 minutes or more.
Once dry, gently wipe off the excess glitter and pat off loose pieces. Roll your newspaper into a cone and pour the remaining glitter back into your container to reuse.
Step 3
Liberally paint on another thick coat of Mod Podge over the glitter and don't be afraid to completely white it out. Again sprinkle glitter all over to cover the wet Mod Podge and allow another 15-20 minutes to dry (sometimes longer especially if you use thick glitter.)
You may even want to wait overnight before applying the last layer which really seals it in and ensures no glitter will fall off.
Step 4
Once you've determined your glitter is dry enough, apply the final layer of Mod Podge. You can even spray it with an acrylic sealant spray to really smooth out the handles and make a glossy finish.
TIP: Don't make the same mistake I did and store them next to each other until you've allowed a full overnight dry as they tend to stick together and/or to the packaging.
Now you have a solid, smooth, and gorgeously glittery brush that will make you feel fancy while you do your hair and makeup! Be careful, glitter can be addicting, but oh so rewarding!
