*FEATURE* My Before and After Baby Body
Friday, February 06, 2015
During my pregnancy I gained 40 lbs and like most first time momma's I became a little uneasy about the weight gain. Of course any amount of weight gain was worth a happy healthy baby but I didn't know how my body would re-act, would it go back to pre-baby status or would my average weight become 5 - 10 lbs heavier? In this blog I will bravely show my post birth body and my transition into my new mommy shape.
After having Jack I immediately lost the average 15 lbs within a few days, but that left a good 25 lb to get back to my pre-baby weight. My doctor advised not to hit the gym for 6 weeks after giving birth and being the paranoid android that I am, I heeded Dr. Malone's instructions.
At the month in a half mark (6 weeks) I was eager to get my gym schedule planned. After much consideration and research, I decided to try Memphis Fitness Kickboxing (aka Memphis Judo and Jiujitsu).
I must admit, being a lover, not a fighter, I was a bit intimidated by the punching bags but all insecurities were thrown out the window when I saw a class in action.
There were men and women of all shapes, sizes, ages, and experience. I was instantly motivated and ready to get on the ball, or should I say bag! Now in order for one to understand how transformational this class can be, I must show my body at the 6 week mark post birth. My Post Baby Body
I am not trying to put my post baby body down because I truly believe that a woman's body after birth is beautiful. It just created a human for 9 months and then delivered that little being into the world. I have a new love for my body. After meeting my son Jack for the first time, I couldn't get over the extraordinary miracle that my body, uncontrolled by me, had created. With that being said, I will point out the obvious weight and structural changes.
Body Changes
loss of almost all muscle tone
loss of skin elasticity in the back, side, and stomach area
hips are noticeably wider
overlap of skin on my back and side
The only place that remained unchanged was my calfs and arms.
The Process
I committed to a 4 week program with a minimum of 3 classes per week. which I pretty much did 3 classes 2 weeks and 4 classes the other two.
The class is intense to say the least. Each class had elements of cardio.
Floor exercises for strength training.
Punching to chisel and trim the arms.
Of course, lots of kicking!
This class is a serious 45 minutes of pure, hardcore workout and the strict instructors will keep you motivated and moving. I took this class with each instructor and they all fabulous but mean business. They push you for results. Which is necessary for most people.

A month later, I was surprised and thrilled at the results!
Post Workout Baby Body
I had gone from 154 lb to 140 lb and the physical changes are evidence of the success of this program.
Since my workout I am on track to my pre-baby body. I still have about 5 lb to loose to meet my weight before pregnancy but honestly, I would rather tone up and put on 5 lb in muscle than loose 5 more lbs in body weight. My hips have slimmed but the beauty of having a baby is the physical marks, or permanent changes that are left behind mine was the wider hips. A gift from Jack that I will not look at in a negative light but one that I will cherish until my last breath.
